Hello, Bud Families!
Welcome June! We are so looking forward to warmer weather and all the activities that come with it! Now is the time to see our Buds blossom!
May’s study focused on growth and science. We loved seeing our Buds develop their theories and continue asking questions such as “Why?” “How?” and “What if?” Curiosity and exploration are vital to cognitive development. Our Buds learn the most when they explore their environment and try new things.
We began our month with a discussion about what it means to be a scientist. The Buds learned about different types of scientists, including paleontologists, botanists, and entomologists. We had discussions about what scientists might wear and how they stay safe. The Buds got to practice being scientists by wearing safety goggles during experiments!
The Buds spent time getting to plant flowers and even some green beans! Our parts of a flower song were a big hit as we discussed the roots, stem, leaves, and flower. We also spent time doing experiments with flowers! The friends created a “Hypothesis” for our project, “Color changing flowers.” The Buds made guesses as to what would happen if we put white flowers in colored water. They had a blast seeing their flowers turn all the rainbow colors! While the Buds enjoyed discovering if they were correct in their hypothesis, they also learned a lot about cause and effect along the way!
We continued our science study throughout the month with more exciting experiments, including “elephant toothpaste,” “traveling colors, “soda explosion, and “will it sink?” This last month’s growth and science study will help us immensely as we move on to our life cycle study in June! We look forward to watching our caterpillars munch on leaves, create cocoons, and enter their final stage of metamorphosis. We are also excited to welcome tadpoles into our classroom! (If we can find them) Lots of responsibility and wonder are to come!
Reminders and more information:
- With warmer weather coming, we would love to explore more water play. If you would like to send extra clothes or a swimsuit, that would be great!
- Almost all of our Buds are using the toilet! If your Bud is not, please help us by offering it at home, as we are offering it here at school. Buds must have mastered potty training before entering the Branch room. Nap time pullups are ok!
All of the love,
Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Maci, and Ms. Gale
