Seedling Families,
In June, we spent a lot of time outdoors with the Big Seed classroom! We have all loved singing the Welcome Song and Wheels on the Bus. All of our table eaters are giving solid efforts with their meals and sitting longer than before! They really enjoy picnics outside when we play some jazz music for them!

Infant sign language and Communication
Babies communicate in various ways. They cry, show facial expressions, change their body language, and make eye contact. As they grow, their communication skills also develop. We support their communication by narrating what is happening around them, singing, reading, and signing. Before a diaper change, we say aloud “it’s time for a diaper change” and sign it. During the diaper change, we talk to the baby and explain what is happening or what we will do next. Later, we might sit beside the baby, imitating and clearly enunciating the sounds they make. Infants also use their bodies to gesture for needs, such as pointing or waving, instead of using their voice.
We practice baby signs to help our babies communicate their needs more effectively as they grow older. Though infants usually don’t start signing back until after 8 months, we introduce it early to build understanding. Some simple signs we use include milk, help, more, all done, diaper, please, thank you, and book! If you want to introduce these signs at home, we’re excited to show you how to do it.
Child Highlights:
- Asher and Lucy have been rolling about the classroom together! We are focusing on building back and neck muscles to allow them to push up!
- Bodhi and Luke enjoy scooting around the class and outside together. Bodhi has pushed himself into a sit a few times and Luke is pulling himself up onto all fours and moving forward!
- Calvin and Graham have been spending time in the Big Seed room, prepping for their transition. We will miss them but are thrilled for their new opportunities in Big Seed!
- Elliotte and Roman have continued honing in on their movement skills as well as starting to play social games like peek-a-boo!
Reminders:
- If you have a sun hat to provide for your kiddo, go ahead and bring one in! We always place our infants in the shade when we go outside, but they are on the go now!
Warmly, Your Seedling Teachers
Ms Danielle, Ms Jo & Ms Blanca
