Seedling Families,
October was very good to us. We spent time playing with friends and getting to know our newest addition, Ford. This month, we will be saying “see you soon” to Asher and welcoming our new friend, Roslyn. We spent lots of time outside, lying in the leaves and squishing them. We loved books this month, reading together or independently flipping through a touch-and-feel book!
Important dates:
- Wednesday, November 11: Closure, conferences
- Thursday, November 26
- Friday November 27: Closure, Thanksgiving
Why do we read to infants?
Reading to infants can strengthen bonds between the adult and infant, build early language skills, and support brain development. Hearing words read or sung aloud helps infants learn sounds, as they rely on the adult’s tone and rhythm. Studies show that regular reading can increase white matter in the infant’s language centers and strengthen neural pathways.
You can keep your baby engaged in reading by slowing down, varying your tone, showing expressiveness while reading, pointing out different items on the pages, and interacting when the baby shows interest in something (even a simple coo should be acknowledged)!
For infants under 6 months, try offering black-and-white books, thick board books, or soft, crinkly sensory books!
Between 6 and 12 months, choose sturdy board books with bright, simple pictures of familiar things. Let your baby touch the pages, hold the book, and help turn the pages.
Cold and Flu Season
It’s that time of year when we will see lots of boogies. Feel free to bring boogie wipes, nasal aspirators, and saline solution. We are happy to help the kiddos feel their best while navigating the season.
Asher, Lucy, Josephine, and Xander have been very engaged in playing together. They enjoy playing near one another and making each other giggle, sometimes by blowing raspberries, offering toys to each other, or making loud noises others can mimic. It creates quite the symphony!
Rowan and Margot have been cruising and exploring the classroom by pulling themselves around! They have been very interested in teachers singing to them!
Ford and Bowie have been working on their gym time and reaching for toys! They are getting used to their surroundings so quickly!
Warmly,
Ms Danielle, Ms Jo, and Ms Allison
