Sprout 1 Families
In May, we had fun exploring Lights and Shadows. Once they discovered their shadows outside, they were very aware that their shadow followed them as they moved around the playground. They also liked turning their flashlights on and shining them all over the classroom.
We Sang:
- Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Light
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
We read:
- Ten Twinkly Stars
- The Black Rabbit.
The Sprouts enjoyed squishing and finding worms and different plastic toys in the playdough; we also colored with markers to make a flashlight, a lightbulb and we used lots of colors to make a big bright rainbow.
Building tall towers with the Duplo Legos was a daily highlight. The Sprouts were diligent in building their towers as high as they could. With the help of friends and teachers, we had some very high towers.
In the dramatic play center, the Sprouts had fun making dinner, setting the table and delivering the meal to friends and teachers.
The light table was a huge hit. The Sprouts enjoyed using it to build with the Magna Tiles and were very surprised by how the tiles glowed.
Outside, the Sprouts discovered their shadows! They would point to the ground and say, “Look. Look.” When the sun was out, we would point to the sky and say, “Bright light.” After we did that, everyone pointed up and covered their eyes because it was so bright.
It was a great month exploring the Lights and Shadows.
Sprout Highlights:
Cadence liked it when we turned off the lights and made light circles on the wall with the flashlights. When she looked at the circle, she would point and say, “Oh, pretty.”
Wynter liked to turn the candles on and off. She would hold it up and say, “Look. Look.”
Jaxon walked around outside, watching his shadow move. He waved his arms and laughed as he looked at it.
Declan was a great helper, turning the lights on after nap. When the light would come on, he would smile and say, “Light on.”
Grady used the tubes in the sensory bin to shake out the pom-poms. He found this activity very funny.
Jordan enjoyed the magnet board, writing, and drawing pictures of his family. He always brought his finished work over to show us and say, “Look made dem.”
Blake did a great job reading the books with us at Circle time. By the end of the month, she could repeat our featured book, Black Rabbit, by heart. Books are one of Blake’s loves.
Violet had fun filling the purses with the lights from the sensory table. She would put her purse on her arm and say, “Bye. Shopping now.”
In June, our study is Paper.
Have noticed how much your Sprout loves to tear, pull apart, and draw on paper. As we study paper, the Sprouts will develop:
- Cognitive skills as they explore, attend to, and engage in activities using paper.
Language and Literacy skills as they talk about the different types of paper and how they use them - Social Skills as they create art with paper alongside peers
- Fine Motor skills as they tear paper and roll it up with their hands
Thank you to Tammy, the Board of Directors, and all the wonderful Parents for a great Teacher Appreciation Week. It was so fun.
Ways you can help:
- If possible, bring in some water shoes to keep here that would be great. We like to keep shoes on the Sprouts during waterplay for safety reasons.
- Have extra clothes in your child’s cubby
Thank you once again for everything you do. If you have any questions or concerns, we are here to help. Have a wonderful June and a very Happy Father’s Day.
