2026 May Seedling News

Seedling Families,

During April, Asher joined our class. We spent some time outside with our Big Seed friends and worked on our table manners while eating! In May, we will introduce Lucy to our class! We are excited to meet her!

 Trust vs Mistrust

The Trust vs. Mistrust stage lasts from birth to 18 months. Erikson’s theory explains how children interact with their environment as they develop trust in their caregivers and themselves. During this stage, infants test whether their caregivers and surroundings are safe by checking whether their needs are consistently met.

To build trust with infants, we must ensure that they are fed when they are hungry and receive care and affection when they cry. Secure, close, and consistent contact helps the infant feel safe. Crying is a baby’s way of signaling that they need something; quickly finding the cause of their crying helps them feel understood and reassured that their caregivers recognize their cues. Establishing a secure base of trust with your child allows them to develop autonomy and independence later on!

Each child differs greatly in demeanor; even siblings can behave completely differently from one another, despite sharing the same parents and background. Learning each child’s cues is essential for building trust. Some babies smack their lips, root (moving their head to find the bottle or breast), or fuss, while others may touch their hands to their mouths. We observe these cues in children as they begin care with us to ensure we can promptly meet their needs.

  • Child highlights:
  • Asher has been rolling over from his back to his belly and extending his tummy time!
  • Bodhi is working on pushing his upper body up while on his tummy!
  • Calvin is crawling all over the classroom and has been very interested in crawling into the shelves to play peek-a-boo!
  • Elliotte has been pushing herself onto all fours and rocking to prepare for crawling!
  • Graham is pushing around anything he can to practice his walking skills and has taken a few independent steps! Go Graham!
  • Luke has been holding himself up in a seated position and moving himself around while on his belly. He loves to make our new friend giggle too!
  • Roman is very interested in climbing this month! He has been finding every opportunity to get up on his toes and smile at his teachers, very proud of himself!

Reminders:

  • Please take home your child’s sleep sack each Friday to wash and return it to school on Monday!
  • When you’re ready to start introducing solid foods to your infant, you’re welcome to bring in purees; we do provide Gerber Infant Oatmeal. When your child reaches 6 months old and is ready to transition from purees to solids, we will offer small portions of foods from our school menu.
