2026 May Bud News

Dear Bud Families,

Our Buds enjoyed expressing their creativity and imagination as we explored our art study in April! We started by learning about primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. Then, we talked about what happens when you mix these primary colors and learned about secondary colors: orange, green, and purple. The Buds had very hands-on experience mixing these colors while working on their art projects. The excitement on their faces when they saw the colors blending was delightful! We explored different art forms, like painting, drawing, cutting, and gluing, and even discussed music and dance as forms of art! The Buds also learned about the roles of the ‘Authors’ and the ‘Illustrators’ when making a book.

The most important part of creating art is the freedom to explore and create. We tried different ways to make art using unique tools such as strings, foam rollers, our hands, and even shaving cream! Our art study began by channeling our inner “Eric Carle” and making collage art. We divided it into three projects. On day one, we painted with different colors using sponge rollers. On day two, our Buds had a blast tearing and cutting paper to prepare for the third and final day of gluing and pasting our collage masterpiece! This process helped us strengthen the Buds’ cognitive and fine motor skills. We loved watching them grow in their problem-solving skills and seeing how specific tools can improve a painting!

We relied on books for inspiration all month. One exciting book was “Mix it Up” by Hervé Tullet. This book taught them the magic of mixing colors and how our primary colors can create all the other colors in the rainbow. The Buds applied this lesson with our ‘Mixing handprints’ project and our “Hand rainbows.” We loved watching the excitement as friends rubbed their hands together to make a new color!

In May, we will shift gears and focus on Science and Growing! We’re excited to see your Bud’s scientific side and encourage them to ask “Why?” when searching for answers. They will have the chance to grow their own plants and practice being scientists.

Reminders:

  •  We are closed on Monday, May 25th, to observe Memorial Day.
  • Before moving to the Branch room, the children need to be potty trained (nap-time pull-ups are okay). We’re here to support you and your child with this!
  • If your child won’t use the Rocky Mountain sunscreen provided by GT and you’ve signed the sunscreen form specifying a particular brand you’ll supply, please ensure to bring us the same brand each time so we can apply it. Otherwise, you’ll need to sign the form again for each new sunscreen brand.

Thank you all for your love and support! We are so grateful to teach and learn from your children.

All of our love and appreciation,

Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Maci, & Ms. Gale
