Dear Blossom Families,
“Your habits will determine your future.”
–Jack Canfield
Our study of the body has been such an exciting discovery that we are thrilled to continue it into February. The class has enjoyed learning about germs and the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and digestive systems.
We started the month by exploring different germs that can affect our bodies—from bacteria to fungi. We understand that not all germs are harmful; some are essential for our health! Our classroom was filled with experiments on this topic, and we learned how germs can affect living things over time, what happens when we wash our hands, and how germs spread from surface to surface.
After studying germs, we delved into the body’s various systems. We began with the skeletal system and assembled a skeletal puzzle to understand how our bones work together. Next, we explored the muscular system and learned how muscles build upon our bones’ framework to help our bodies move. We even made working hands to demonstrate how ligaments, tendons, and muscles work together.
After that, we studied the digestive system and how our bodies process food and distribute nutrients to different parts. We first focused on the stomach by creating individual stomach models to show how we chew food and how it is further broken down by stomach acids. As a class, we built a functioning digestive system, taking turns as the chewing, esophagus, and intestines to demonstrate how waste leaves the body as excrement.
We will continue our studies in February by studying the circulatory system before introducing the topics of teeth, nutrition, and healthy habits.
Please remember to regularly check your child’s cubby and ensure they have a full set of snow clothes and a change of clothes. Keeping these items available is important when the children need them. They learn, play, and rest best when they are comfortable.
Plenty of art is available in your child’s art folder. Please take it home and enjoy it. Enjoy!
Reminders:
- February 14: Valentine’s Day (We will celebrate on Friday the 13th. Please bring 21 Valentine cards, with only your child’s name on them.)
- February 16th – Presidents’ Day: Closed
All the love,
Ms. Stephanie, Miss Madeline, and Mr. Keegan
Sadly, Mr Keegan is leaving Growing Tree to pursue a career in construction. We will miss him, but he has promised to come back to take care of our handyman projects.
