Sprout Families,

In April, the Sprouts focused on Boxes and Containers. We discussed their everyday use and how we can utilize them. We made a big house from a box and used crayons to decorate it! Everyone did a great job taking turns while sitting in the playhouse with their friends! The Sprouts enjoyed using their imagination and testing ideas.

Teachers continually seek new ideas to foster fine motor skills and promote independence. To promote these skills, our Sprouts worked on opening, closing, twisting, turning, snapping, and unsnapping the boxes and containers we provided.

Monthly Highlights:

Owen thought it was fun to hide things inside the smaller containers. When his teachers asked him where something was, he opened the lid to show them. It was such a fun trick!

Norah was interested in the bunny containers and how they worked. She did a great job helping friends open them up when they got stuck!

While cooking in the Home Center, Savannah used all the boxes and containers to pretend to make meals for everyone!

Brody liked to use the crayons to color on the boxes! He loved creating pictures with his friends!

Bode was excited each day to read our circle time books. His favorite part of one of the stories was when the children made a train out of boxes!

Van picked out his favorite toy cars to push along the cardboard car track! He said, “I like this one!”

Mary used our box house for her baby dolls. Creating a space for them to take a nap with their blankets!

Alice enjoyed sitting inside the box with some friends and said, “I’m going on an airplane ride!”

In May, the Sprouts will focus on our clothes. Throughout the month, we will discuss various types of clothing and when to wear them. Some questions we will ask are:

  • What do we wear?
  • What do we do when our clothes get dirty?
  • Why do we have clothes?

The Sprouts will practice fine and gross motor skills as they play dress up and learn about buttons, zippers, snaps, and putting on shoes and socks.

We will be reading :

  • Llama Llama Red Pajama
  • I Love My White Shoes
  • My Four Groovy Buttons

Songs will include:

  • What Color am I Wearing
  • One Bright Scarf.
  • What can you do at home?
Draw your child’s attention to their clothes and invite them to help choose what to wear that day.
  • Maybe offer two choices.
  • Discuss with your child why those choices would be appropriate for that day.
  • Lastly, allow them time to try, try, and try again.

Reminders:

  • Check your child’s cubby basket for extra clothes and/or weather-appropriate jackets. We’ll be ready for fun and more messes with warmer weather approaching!
  • Thank you for taking the time to connect with us at conferences. It was so lovely to see you all!
  • We always look forward to connecting with you!

Have a great month of May!
