Dear Blossom Families,
It was wonderful meeting you all at the conference! If you have any further concerns or want to follow up on a topic we discussed, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are so grateful we could meet and discuss your wonderful children. We see the progress they are making every day.
We have been looking forward to our building study for months now. Our class is full of creatives who love to learn and understand how everything works. We began our building study by transforming a large box into a structure of our design. After a classroom conversation, the Blossoms decided to make it into a school. They designed the box and practiced their writing skills on it!
After that, we examined the various materials used during construction. We had a sensory experience as we made our cement oobleck. We focused on some of the children’s questions, such as, “Why do we build in holes?” “What do you use to build a house?” and “Why are buildings so different?” We examined buildings worldwide to compare their similarities and differences with the ones we encounter daily.
Building on our previous discussion about materials, we explored the various heavy machinery and tools used in construction. We then examined blueprints and drafted our own—from houses to schools, we saw it all! We even had a Growing Tree amongst them. The class was especially excited to discuss and learn more about the machines used in construction—from excavators to cranes, these Blossoms are now machinery experts.
To conclude our Blossom Building study, we dedicated our final week to building our own city. We first discussed the various buildings that can be found in a city and considered which ones we might want to create. Each child then built and decorated their structure. We had everything from a police station to some donut shops. Blossom Town was an expansive city!
May will begin our Gardening Study. We are thrilled to start planting again and for our sunflowers from previous years to blossom again! As always, if you have expertise in our study and would like to share it with our class, we would be delighted to have you. It is always a joy to hear from someone new.
As warmer weather approaches, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately. We will spend a lot of time outside, and the temperature will only continue rising. Please consider your child’s shoes, as many open-toe shoes restrict a child’s ability to play safely. Consider closed-toe sandals over flip-flops so that little feet don’t get hurt when biking and engaging in regular play.
Please take your child’s snowsuit and snow gear home if you haven’t already. Hopefully, the snow is gone! Please ensure your child has extra clothes in their basket for unexpected accidents or spills.
Thank you for everything you do!
All the love,
Ms. Madeline, Ms. Stephanie, and Mr. Keegan
