Sprout Families,

Our study focused on balls, bubbles, and other round objects in March. It was a truly enjoyable and engaging experience! We introduced a few new songs and storyboards during circle time, including Circles Like a Ball, Icky Sticky Bubble Gum, and Rosa Plays Ball. All were huge hits. The whole class was excited to join in every morning, making this study a genuinely joyful experience for everyone.

We transformed our classroom into a big ball pit to bring our study to life. We explored a variety of balls, including basketballs, soccer balls, golf balls, ping-pong balls, cotton balls, and more. The children loved feeling the different textures and discovering how each ball moved.

Bubbles and balls surround us, even in everyday objects like bubble wrap! With a nearly endless supply, Kelcy turned our floors, walls, and cabinets into a sea of satisfying pops. The children had a blast jumping, poking, and pressing each tiny bubble, turning our classroom into an interactive, sensory-filled playground!

As we wrapped up the study, excitement quickly shifted to green and gold! With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, we were looking for signs of a mischievous leprechaun in our classroom. The Sprouts were thrilled to discover tiny hidden gold coins, chocolate gold, and the little surprises left behind.

This month’s SPROUT-LIGHTS…

Van is sitting with Ms. Yesenia, she says, “the color orange in Spanish is Anaranjado”. Van excitedly says  “Ana-hado”!!

Brody enjoys the Icky Sticky Bubblegum song! He claps throughout the song and thought it was so funny to chew imaginary bubble gum!

Bode collects the balls and needs his dump truck filled to the fullest capacity before dumping them all over the floor!

Mary lines up the balls each day in a pattern. Occasionally, she will sit her babies close by to watch her while she plays.

Norah loved our ball pit collection party! She filled a basket to the top and laughed so hard that she walked over to Ms. April, spilling the balls on her head!

Savannah thought our bubble dance party was the best! She danced while popping bubbles. She says loud and proud, “I’ve got it!”

Owen had a blast making marble art! He chose his favorite colors and took great pleasure in controlling how the balls moved along the paper.

Alice loved the ping-pong balls. Each evening, she would hide one to find it the following morning. Please leave it to Alice to have such a great memory!

Last but certainly not least, we have June!

Her favorite song was B-I-N-G-O en español. She walked all over the playground singing ‘Un Perro BINGO’.

We will miss her and wish her well at her new school with her brother.

Looking ahead–

In April, our study will be on Containers and Boxes. Our focus words will be “Open” and “Close,” and the Sprouts will be exploring and learning from the questions :

  • What do we use boxes/containers for
  • How do we open/close boxes/containers?
  • What are the shapes of our boxes/containers?

This study will promote learning and development in the areas of:

  • Fine motor skills: opening and closing boxes/
  • containers
  • Cognitive skills: problem solving
  • Mathematical skills: counting and stacking

What can you do at home?

Look for similar materials found around your house. Many household items that utilize boxes and containers can serve as effective teaching examples. For instance, items used for food storage and cooking can spark informative conversations. Discussions on what is stored in certain containers can answer all those “Why” questions toddlers love to ask. Invite your child to explore these items and discuss them together!

Reminders:

  • Conferences are April 18th. We look forward to meeting with all of you!
  •  Please bring in a lightweight jacket or a sweatshirt for our afternoon outside time.
  • on a sad note, April is no longer at Growing Tree – We wish her well
