Dear Sprout 1 Families,
Spring is here; we hope to see little bunnies and Sprouts hopping around, enjoying the warm weather.
In March, we had fun exploring different types of Bags. They all loved filling the bags up and carrying them around the room. They would wave to us and say “Bye” as they walked around.
At circle we read:
- Grandma’s Purse by Vanessa Brantley-Newton
- Millie Waits for the Mail by Alexander Steffensmeier
- Maisy Goes Shopping by Lucy Cousins.
Songs:
The Sprouts’ favorite song this month was Five Green Speckled Frogs.
The Sprouts are doing so well during art time using paint and glue sticks. They use a full arm motion to apply the glue or paint to the paper. We still taste them sometimes, but not as much as we used to. The children are doing very well during art time with paint and glue sticks. They use a full arm motion to apply the glue and paint on their paper. Although we still occasionally sample the materials, this happens less frequently than it used to.
We also created some sensory bags for them to explore. They liked to squish them with their hands and explore them with their mouths. They tried to open them, but luckily no one succeeded.
In the classroom, we received new bag activities from Ms. Tammy. They loved the colored bags that had coordinating food to match the bag. They would try to cram as much food into them as they could.
We also had purses, totes, and grocery bags in our dress-up area. They enjoyed taking the large beach bag and filling it with babies and blankets. The purses we had would hold plastic food and phones, and they would walk to the door, wearing them on their arms.
Outside, we had fun finding treasures in the sandbox and shoveling the snow. They are all getting good at helping us shovel the snow and put it in the sandbox. We are sure that if you had a child-sized snow shovel at home, it would be a big help shoveling snow.
Monthly Highlights:
Wynter would take the big beach bag, fill it with babies and a phone, then tell us, “Go now. Need shopping,” and then walk to the door.
Violet filled up the little colored bags in the sensory table with food from the dress-up area. She would look around and say, “The food is good.”
Jordan took the big brown purse and filled it up with a phone and a baby. He would then walk to the table and say, “Go now.” Bye.”
Jaxon would take the little zipper bag and fill it up with dinosaurs. He got good at zipping it open and closed.
Declan would fill up the bear purse with toys and carry it to the book area. When he sat down, he would put the purse in his lap and look at the Bear Hunt book.
Grady liked to take the cloth fruit from the sensory table and give it a little wash in the sink. We think he wanted it clean before he took a little nibble of it.
Blake took the different bags and would hand them to all her friends. When she was done, she would say, “Go shopping now.”
Cadence was a great artist this month. She did a great job using the glue sticks. She would put the glue on the paper and put all the pieces on the glue areas. When she was done would say “Did it.”
In April, our study is on Containers. Have you noticed how your Sprout loves to fill and dump out containers?
During our study of containers, the Sprouts will develop language and literacy skills as they name and describe containers by color, shape, size and function. They will practice math skills as they count containers and explore how much they can hold; and experience a growing sense of independence as they do new things for themselves with the containers.
Circle time will feature us reading and singing songs related to containers.
It’s going to be a great month exploring the containers! We can’t wait to get started.
Here are a few reminders for the month of April:
- Extra clothes in the cubbies are welcomed
- Don’t forget on April 18th we will be having our Spring Conferences. This is a good time for us to talk and go over any questions you may have about the observations or the room.
- Make sure your Sprout has a light coat to keep here at school. Some mornings are a little warm and they don’t need those heavy coats.
- Sadly, April is no longer with Growing Tree. We wish her well.
Thank you once again for all that you do. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Have an egg-cellent April and a very Happy Easter.
Teresa, Jennifer, and Nana Julie
