Welcome Sprout Families
In June, The Sprouts focused on “Lights.” We got to bring out the light table, which was a new experience for everyone. Using the light table, we learned how light affects certain colors, and with colored coins, we explored metal paddles for the first time. We learned about our shadows and what they might look like depending on the person or object. The book “The Black Rabbit” helped them understand when our shadows are around. The Sprouts even made a black rabbit of their own. We studied different forms of light, such as flashlights, lanterns, and traffic lights. We also learned about the sun and how it is a source of light. The Sprouts did an amazing job using their fine motor skills by rubbing the chalk horizontally with two fingers as they created their northern lights project. As temperatures rose, we finally introduced water play to the Sprouts, making this month even more exciting. They love it, and so do we!
In July, we will study rocks, sand, and water. This upcoming month will be a high-sensory experience for our friends. They will focus on rock cleaning and explore different ways to play with sand and water, both inside and outside the classroom. The focus words are wet and dry as we learn to distinguish between the two.
July Books:
- Ricky the Rock Who Couldn’t Roll
- I Found a Rock
- Water
- Llama Llama Sand and Sun
Monthly Sproutlights
- Avery has enjoyed the Mickey Mouse Light On, Light Off book. She will ask for it to be read by saying she wants to read the “Minions” book.
- Eames is new to Bend and to Growing Tree. Eames fit right in with our Sprouts. His family moved from the Bay Area in June. Welcome, Sara, Ted, and Eames
- Kollins has really come to enjoy the storyboards. Her favorite right now is ‘In The Barn’. Storyboards are always a hit, especially when it’s a new one.
- Lucas has really enjoyed reading the book ‘The Little Black Rabbit’ in the dark while we hold up the flashlight. This book teaches us about shadows, and all the Sprouts are very fascinated with how they work.
- Maisy has been showing us her big sister energy lately—from guiding her friends when they are not making the right choices to using complete sentences to communicate her wants and needs, or simply just having a conversation. Go Maisy!
- Milo was a big fan of the Traffic Light song. He was very enthusiastic about all the hand gestures that go along with the song.
- Oliver was introduced to water play outside this month, and to say he’s been very excited is an understatement. Ollie loves splashing around and running through the hose. The fun has just begun, Ollie!
- Theo just moved over to our room from Big Seeds. Welcome to Sprout 2, Neerja, Geoff, and Theo
- Thomas has been very verbal this month. He’s been holding Miss Jennifer’s hand and walking around with her as she narrates what the other children are doing. Thomas now asks questions by blabbing and pointing. His most used sentence this month has been “I want it.”
- Wesley has been enjoying the new songs we introduced this month. She loves to sing along to ‘Los Colores” (The Colors). Wesley will point at the colors and even at what she’s wearing. Go Wesley!
- Lucas and Wesley have taken the summer off and will meet back up with their friends in the Bud room in September.
Here’s to a great Month!
