Dear Blossom Families,
It’s hard to believe the first month of school has already gone by! Over the past few weeks, we have learned more about your child — their likes and dislikes, their strengths and skills, and how we can best support them during the year ahead.
Our puppet friends, Joey and Kinderoo, introduced five life skills to the class: helpful, patient, respectful, responsible, and careful. These five skills are the foundation of our classroom. The Blossoms enjoyed role-playing with Kinderoo and Joey, a favorite activity for us!
Questions to ask your growing Blossom:
- How does Kinderoo keep Joey safe?
- How can we maintain a safe classroom environment?
- What is a connection?
- What is your favorite part of the day?
- What is your favorite art tool or material to create with in the Blossom room?
Now that your child understands the ins and outs of a successful day in the Blossom room, we are ready to start our first study! In our first study, we will delve into the world of fairy tales. Over the next few weeks, we will see, perform, retell, represent, and discover our favorite fairytales. We will examine fairytale elements and learn about characters, settings, problem-solving, resolutions, sequence, and story patterns. We will read several different versions of each fairytale from cultures around the world. We will act out stories, create puppets, and build a shadow box theater. We are excited to begin this fun and imaginative unit!
We have introduced the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne to the Blossoms. We discuss daily the difference between fact and fiction, as our Blossoms are still developing the ability to distinguish what is real from what is not. In October, we will be reading books #6-10, which cover topics such as the Amazon, the moon, and dolphins.
Please don’t hesitate to ask questions, express concerns, or share stories with us. We are here to support you and your child!
