Sprout Families,

Hello June! Let summer time begin!

Last month, the Sprouts explored Clothing. During our circle time, we discussed various types of clothing, their purposes, how to care for them, and why we wear specific clothing for weather or our jobs.

We sang the song  What Color Am I Wearing using each child’s name in the song to describe what they were wearing each day, and brought awareness to what they and others wore regularly.

Our artwork consisted of colorful pajamas and shirts that they could decorate the way they liked. Of course, we created a shirt to match everyone’s favorite character, Pete, from Pete the Cat’s “4 Groovy Buttons” story. They also played a matching sock game. And we even traced our shoes. Watching the Sprouts compare shoes with their friends and try them on was a lot of fun! They also practiced putting on and taking off coats, hats, shoes, and socks in preparation for those moving into the Bud Room in September.

Monthly Highlights:

Savannah used a lot of her free play time to work on the busy boards. Her favorite thing to do was buckle the straps. She also does it on her own with the helmets!

Mary enjoyed coloring the paper shirt with markers. She requested purple, pink, and red to create her beautiful design!

Bode took off his boots and socks to get into the sandbox. When he was done, he put them back on by himself, showing a lot of independence!

Norah practiced her “coat trick” skills to put on the dress-up clothes in the home center! She also never forgot to add the matching hat to her adorable outfit!

Owen’s favorite book this month was hands down, Pete the Cat’s Four Groovy Buttons. He read along and pointed out the three buttons on his shirt during circle time! Good connection!

Van made a fashion statement when he came in with his mismatched shoes! How fun and funky is that! It inspired our mismatched sock art project!

Alice usually picked out the chef costume when playing dress up! She enjoyed pretending to make soup in the kitchen and always made enough to share with all her friends. So kind!

Brody likes to keep his cozy coat on in the mornings, but when he’s ready to take it off, he unzips the zipper by himself and puts it in his cubby. He will also put away his friend’s coats! Such a great helper!

Our study for June will be on Lights.

We plan to discuss and explore anything that emits light. The sun, flashlights, and stars are just a start. Some investigative questions we will be asking

  • What makes light?
  • How do we use light?
  • How do we turn lights on and off?

Books:

  • Where is the Sun?
  • My Shadow
  • Lights On, Lights Off
  • Black Rabbit

Songs:

  • This Little Light of Mine
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
  • Mr. Sun

THANK YOU for all the thoughtful cards, gifts, and for an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week! We are so very grateful for our Growing Tree families!
